History of Estero Florida:
Did you know people have been living in Estero, FL for thousands of years? Mound Key in the Estero Bay was once the cultural center of the Calusa people. Now an archaeological state park, Mound key is made of bone, shell, and pottery fragments left by the Calusa so many years ago. Managed by Koreshan State Historic Site and only accessible by boat, Mound Key is only one of many attractions in Estero, FL where you can explore the area’s rich history.
The Koreshans, one of Southwest Florida’s earliest groups of European settlers, were a religious cult who built impressive structures and planted lush gardens in what is now Koreshan State Historic Site. Today, the site is a great place to have a picnic, see their collection of exotic and native plants, and fish or kayak along the Estero River.
Estero Today:
Modern-day Estero retains much of its natural beauty, which can still be explored by foot, bike, or boat. Of course, you will also find luxurious conveniences like golf courses, day spas, award-winning restaurants, and upscale shopping. Meadowbrook residents enjoy convenient access to Rt. 41 and I-75, which means a quick and easy trip to Ft. Myers or Naples. Estero residents love that these two cities are so close, but far enough away to avoid the expense and crime that can come with living in a big city.
